Sanquelim Eagles lift Ponda Overseas Cup

Sanquelim Eagles once again proved themselves to be the best GWS team winning the 4-over cricket tournament organised by Ponda Overseas Associates at Zabeel Park cricket ground, Dubai on December 2.
Altogether, 15 teams of GWS from all parts of Goa in Dubai participated.
Captain Younus Shaikh of Sanquelim Eagles with a good display of batting and bowling, led his side from the front to a comfortable victory against Kakeez Brothers, Margao in a one-sided finals.
Younus and Sher Khan specially flew from Goa to take part in the tournament. Feroz, Abid, Chirag and Tanvir Shaikh played a pivotal role in their victory. Bowler Tanvir Shaikh picked up 11 wickets in the tournament.
This is the third victory for Sanquelim Eagles in four tournaments and with sheer determination and confidence they secured the championship.
In the finals, Kakeez Brothers batted first and could manage only 29 runs under fierce bowling attack by Sanquelim. Chasing a total of 30 runs in four overs, Sanquelim finished in 3.1 overs.
In the semi-finals, Sanquelim Eagles defeated JTGT, Mapusa in a one-sided encounter. Sanquelim batted first and set a target of 50 runs with useful contribution from Sherkhan, to which JTGT finished with 37 runs.
In the other semi-finals, Ponda Boys batted first and were bundled out for 23 runs which Kakeez Brothers successfully chased in 3 overs.
Earlier, Ponda Overseas Associates president, Munaf Mulla declared the tournament open in the presence of Sayed Yakub (president, Sanquelim Eagles), Sajid Khan (president, Sayeem Cargo), Feroz Shaikh (president, Kakeez Brothers), Riaz Ali Shabir Khan (CFO, Zulfa and councillor of GWS CC), Azim Aga (president, VSC), Aslam Sattar Naroo (CEO, SE), Farid Sultan Khan (president, U V), Aslam Shah (SE), Ejaz Shaik (Zulfa SC), Imaam Shaikh (Zulfa SC), Javeed Shaik (Sparkling).
Chief guest, Kassim Usman Khan gave away the prizes. Following individual prizes were awarded: Man-of-the-finals – Yunus Shaikh (S.E). Man-of-the-series – Fahad (JTGT). Best bowler – Tanvir Shaikh (SE). Best batsman – Mohsin Bepari (Zulfa).
