PANJIM: The Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, and St Xavier’s Coallege, Mapusa, won the men’s and women’s Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Championships 2023-24 organised by the Goa University at the Goa University ground, Taleigao Plateau.
In the women’s final, St Xavier’s College outplayed SSA’s Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem, 25-14, 25-20, and 25-23.
In the semis-final, SSA’s Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem, defeated PES’s RSN College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, 25-10, 25-11 and 25-11 and St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, defeated Don Bosco College, Panjim, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-11.
In the men’s final, the Government College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, Sanquelim, defeated PES’s RSN College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.
Earlier in the semis-final in the men’s category, PES’s RSN College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, defeated DCT’s SS Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-16 and the Government College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, Sanquelim, defeated CES College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim, 25-19, 25-13, and 25-16.
Best player in men and women was awarded to Akash Gaude of the Government College, Sanquelim, and Gauri Shetgaonkar of St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, respectively. In all, 34 men’s and 25 women’s teams participated in the four-day championship.
Chief guest for the presentation ceremony Joslyn D’Souza, college director of Physical Education and Sports, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, along with Balachandra Jadar, assistant director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, presented the medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
