RAIA: Sao Jose de Areal edged past Curtorim Gymkhana 7-6 via tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of Cana-Benaulim Super Soccer inter-village football tournament organised by Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association at St John the Baptista ground, Benaulim, on Sunday.
It was a match played between the two title contenders in front of more than 500 spectators.
Daryl Costa opened the scoreline for Sao Jose de Areal in the 5th minute.
As the match progressed in the second half, Anselmo Fernandes equalised for Curtorim Gymkhana. Then Daryl doubled the lead for Sao Jose de Areal in the 47th minute to complete his brace but the joy was short-lived as Rhay Dias equalised for Curtorim Gymkhana just few minutes left for the final whistle.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Sao Jose de Areal proved to be the better shooters.
