MAPUSA: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club registered a 2-0 victory over Merces Club in the 10th All-Goa Late Pio Jose Goveia Memorial Invitational Inter Village Football Tournament 2015, organized by YSC, played at Colvale church ground, here, on Saturday.
It was David Colaco who put Sao Jose de Areal into the lead in the 17th minute.
Hardly three minutes later, they consolidated their lead when David set up Gomes inside the penalty area who controlled the ball before placing it past the helpless rival keeper.
On Friday, Goa Velha Sports Clube trounced Xetrapal Sports Club 3-0 to advance into the next round. All goals came in the first session of play.
Goa Velha took an early lead when Sairaj Chodankar covered a few meters and unleashed a powerful right-footer which landed into the far corner of Xetrapal goal.
Francis Fernandes Pawar doubled the lead for Goa Velha in the 23rd minute through a solo effort. Three minutes later, Goa Velha once again found the back of the nets through Arun Naik to take the score tally to 3-0.
