MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club came from behind to thrash United Club of Nerul 4-1 and sail into the quarter-finals of All-Goa 40th Chandor Seamen Trophy inter-village football at Chandor ground, Saturday. There was no score at half time.
Post resumption, Nerul began in the right earnest and pushed Sao Jose de Areal on the defensive. Nerul’s breakthrough came soon after the resumption when Sanket Jodkar bulged the net.
Stunned by the setback, Areal regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight to the rival camp. Agio Antao neutralized the lead with a snap shot off a pass by Mario Baretto.
Spurred by the equalizer, Areal increased their pace and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Francisco Baretto gave Areal the lead midway in the second session.
Silveter Carvalho put the issue beyond doubt when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a stiff grounder. Mario Baretto drove the final nail into the rival coffin at the fag end.
