MAPUSA: Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao thumped Young Boys of Tonca 2-0 in a Round Two First Division football league match at Duler Stadium, here, Saturday. Sao Miguel led 2-0 at half time.
Sao Miguel started attackingly as Randell’s throw-in found Pramod, who made a promising run inside the box, but his low cross to Richard was timely collected by YBT goalkeeper Parsappa in the fifth
minute. In the next minute, YBT’s Queterio was cautioned by referee Sainath Haldankar after he brought down Richard at the edge of the box.
Sao Miguel controlled the proceedings but lacked sharpness upfront. First, Thomson essayed an intelligent pass in the rival citadel that split the defence and found Pramod but the latter’s powerful grounder went inches wide in the 10th minute. Then, Randell’s perfect cross was headed wide by Marc from close range.
However, Sao Miguel surged ahead in the 18th minute through a set piece. Randell’s powerful free-kick deflected off a rival player and beat the rival custodian.
Sao Miguel did not allow their rivals to settle down as they doubled their advantage through Pramod, who muscled past the rival defence and beautifully chipped over Parsappa in the 26th minute.
Two minutes later, YBT came close to pull one back but Dickson’s rasping long ranger hit the horizontal.
Just before the lemon break, YBT’s Terence unleashed a venomous shot from outside the box but his effort was parried away by rival goalkeeper Risven.
After resumption, Sao Miguel continued their dominance. Richard set up Bazileo, whose close ranger was blocked by onrushing Parsappa in the 47th minute.
Nine minutes later, Marc passed to Richard on the right flank, who dribbled past a couple of defenders but the last named shot wide.
At the other end, YBT were trying hard to get back into the game but Terence’s curling free-kick was palmed away by Risven in the 75th minute.
YBT dominated the last quarter but eventually ran out of ideas as the rival defenders stood rock solid.
Sao Miguel have collected three points from two matches while YBT are yet to open their account after two outings.
