Saras, Alana emerge State chess champions

PANJIM: Saras Summer Powar and Alana Julieta Menezes Andrade emerged champions in the Open and Girls category respectively of the All Goa U-15 (Open & Girls) State Selection and Championship 2023 conducted by Salcete Taluka Chess Association (STCA) on behalf of Goa Chess Association at Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda-Margao, recently.

In the Open Category, Saras (1303) drew with Chaitanya Gaonkar(1425) in the final round with 6 points. Shubh Vishnu Borkar(1235) managed to outwit Shlok Sanjiv Mesta to finish second with 6 points. Aarth Siddhesh Shenvi Karapurkar(1379) defeated joint leader Hriday Morajkar(1332) to finish third with 6 points. Vaz Edrick (1372) outsmarted Sarthak Kavlekar to finish fourth with 6 points. The 5th to 10th place winners are: Chaitanya Gaonkar, Hriday Morajkar, Mayuresh Laxlabh Desai, Ekka Aniket, Sahil Prasad Naik and Shlok Sanjiv Mesta.

The category prizes were won by the following players: U-13 – 1st place: J A Simplicio Viegas. 2nd place: Kanishk Sagar Sawant. U-11 – 1st place: Sairaj Narvenkar. 2nd place: Sachit Pai. U-9 – 1st place: Shaurya Prabhu Agrasani. 2nd place: Aarav Ritesh Prabhu Gaonkar. U-7 1st place: Evan Antonio Telles. 2nd place: Narayan alais Aarav A Prabhu Dessai.

In the Girls Category, Alana Julieta Menezes Andrade (1218) defeated Sayyed Mahdiya(1120) with 5.5 points. Asmita Avikit Ray (1476) managed to outwit Diya Digambar Sawal(1192) to finish second with 5.5 points. Jennica Sequeira (1192) defeated Sayyed Maizah (1036) to finish third. Diya Digmabar Sawal finished finish fourth with 4.5 points. The 5th to 10th place winners are: Valanka Fernandes, Shriya Patil, Arya Amit Dubley, Shourya Suraj Pednekar, Sayyed Mahdiya and Lyia Marysil Silveira.

The category prizes were won by the following players: U-13 – 1st place: Saeeja Gunesh Dessai, 2nd place: Sayyed Maizah. U-11 – 1st place: Rochel Pereira. 2nd place: Kaya Renee Coutinho. U-9 – 1st place: Diya Naik. 2nd place: Krutika Aggarwal. U-7 1st place: Vania Vaibhav Dukle. 2nd place: Aaradhya Parsekar.

Top four players are selected to represent Goa at the Jalgaon Nationals in December. The prizes were given away by CA Vishwanath Bhat along with Ashesh Keni, secretary of Goa Chess Association; Damodar Zambaulikar, vice president, STCA; Dilip Vernekar, treasurer; STCA; Jostna Saripalli, chief arbiter; Asha Shirodkar, deputy chief arbiter; Nilesh Shirodkar, member; Pritviraj Katkar, joint secretary, STCA; Ridikesh Vernekar, arbiter; Sudhakar Patgar, arbiter and others.
