PANJIM: Saraswati Sports Club, Priol emerged champions defeating Curtorim Warriors Maina-Curtorim 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 29-27 in the finals of First South Goa Volleyball Tournament organised by United Boys of Muxivaddo at St Alex church court, Curtorim.
Saraswat staged a brilliant recovery, putting up a dogged fight after being beaten in the first set. With better smashing power, they came up trumps in the next three sets to emerge winners.
MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco was the chief guest. Fr. Joseph Salema, Parish Priest of St Alex Church, Sina Furtado were the guests of honour. James D’Costa presided. Lydia Sardinha, Conceicao Dias, Arnaldo Costa, Alistroy Gleez D’Souza, Fransisco Xavier Rodrigues, Caetano Dias, Caetano Fernandes were the special guests.
Saraswati won Rs 30,000 while Curtorim Warriors had to be content with Rs 20,000.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Best player – Clint Luis of Curtorim. Best setter – Suresh of Curtorim. Best defender – Subash Velingkar of Saraswati. Best smasher – Kaushik Gaude of Saraswati. Man-of-the finals – Mayuresh Gaude of Saraswati. Upcoming player – Suraj of Curtorim.
In a girls exhibition match, Compassion FC defeated Valankani Girls of Navelim.
