MAPUSA: Sarzora Sports Club trounced Goan Warriors Football Club 3-0 in a GFA’s U-20 Second Division football Round two league match at Duler Stadium, here, Saturday. The winners led 2-0 at half time.
Alroy Moniz put Sarzora ahead in the 27th minute with a delightful finish and then, finished the day with a curling free-kick in the 90th minute for his brace.
Alroy also assisted Wellington Rodrigues for the second goal in the 33rd minute. Warriors tried hard to crawl back in the second session but poor finishing let them down.
Sarzora earned three points from their first match while Warriors suffered their first defeat after winning their previous match.
Warriors controlled the early proceedings but the visitors slowly clicked into a rhythm. Sarzora created the first threat when Niall Cardozo’s close ranger was blocked by rival keeper Vithal Varak. The ball rebounded to Alroy but the latter ballooned over with the rival custodian out of his position. However, Alroy gave his team the lead just before the half hour mark. He kept his eyes on the ball and connected Niall’s cross with a beautiful inside the box half-volley that crashed into the rival nylons.
Sarzora were certainly all charged up and marched in search of their second. They soon achieved what they desired as Alroy’s dangerous flag-kick sailed over the Warriors’ defence and was headed in by lanky Wellington, 2-0. The only time Warriors looked dangerous in the first session was when Samuel Almeida missed the target by inches.
Changing over, striker M Abel had a glorious chance to pull a goal back but the striker’s chip sailed wide. Sarzora relaxed and played defensive and Alroy took full advantage of a last minute outside the box free-kick, beautifully curling with his right foot.
