MARGAO: Sarzora Sports Club beat Durga-Sucaldem Sports Club 3-2 to cruise into the quarter-finals of Chinchinim Villagers football tournament organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at church ground, Chinchinim, Friday. Sarzora led 2-0 at half time.
Sarzora started in their customary attacking fashion and dominated the opening session. They forged ahead when Stanford Dias fired home from close after being fed by Benson Dias.
Spurred by the early success, Sarzora intensified their attacks and doubled their lead when Benson’s stiff shot crashed into the net.
Stunned by the deficit, Durga upped the ante and harassed the rival citadel with orchestrated raids but their efforts were thwarted by the rival defenders.
Durga put up a better display after the break and reduced the deficit through Edu Menezes.
After reducing the margin, Durga continued to press hard for the equalizer and their efforts materialized in the second half when Sanjay Menezes restored parity with a stiff grounder.
With time running out, Sarzora made a last ditch effort and scored the match-winner through Stanford Dias at the fag end. Shelton Viegas of Durga was adjudged man-of-the-match.
