BETALBATIM: Sarzora SC edged past St Savio, Calangute 1-0 to move into the semi-finals of the Martin’s Cup organised by Betalbatim SC, at Betalbatim Sports Complex ground, on Monday.
Sunny Simoes of Sarzora SC made a brilliant start for his team and kept the rival defence on backfoot after his constant raids on the Calangute side.
In the 2nd minute stepping inside a sliding tackle Sunny Simoes sent in a power drive shot towards the goal which was saved by St Savio goalkeeper.
Sarzora SC attacked yet again in a few minutes through Ryan Fernandes who dribbled past a couple of defenders and shot from close range which hit the goalpost and rebound back into play. Charles Cardozo of St Savio, Clangute tried to take control of the ball however his attempt to defend the goal was in vain as the ball rolled into his own nets in the 5th minute.
Trailing with a goal Pedro Gonsalves of St Savio Clangute had a beautiful chance to level scores but missed a glorious sitter in the 20th minute.
It was in the 28th minute that Steflon Costa’s power drive shot for Sarzora SC was saved by St Savio SC goalkeeper.
St Savio SC went all in to get their much desired goal through Joaquim Gonsalves but his solo effort was blocked by Salvador Rebelo, defender of Sarzora SC the 36th minute.
Sarzora SC will meet Betalbatim SC in the semi-finals on January 11.
