MARGAO: A fine hat-trick by striker Savio Fernandes helped Verna Sports Club thump Cristo Rei Youth Club, Betalbatim 3-0 in Salcete Zone (Group E) GFA Third Division football league, at Nagoa ground, on Tuesday. Verna led 2-0 at half time.
Verna held upper hand in both the sessions. They broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Savio punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
Five minutes later, Savio doubled the lead with another clinical finish.
Late in the second half, Savio drove the last nail into the rival coffin.
In the Group G match at St John the Baptist ground, Benaulim, United Club of Benaulim trounced St Anthony SC, Colva 5-3. The teams were tied 1-1 at the lemon break.
Velisto Afonso, Royston Fernandes, Benfred Fernandes, Vincy Rodrigues and Clinton Fernandes scored for the winners while Dylan Lourenceo, Falsen Correia and Sweeden Rodrigues netted for St Anthony.
In Group C match, at Rosary Ground, Navelim Carmel Sports Club walloped Dramapur Sports Club 5-0 after leading 3-0 at half time. Jovin D’Costa (2), Vivek Naik, Mauvin Dias, Jeff Pires scored.
In the Bardez zone match, Xetrapal SC thrashed Tropa Sports and Cultural Association 6-0. Bradley Lobo scored a fine hat-trick. Vipul Pednekar (2) and Vaibhav Mayekar were the other scorers.
