Sawant holds meeting with IOA officials to discuss National Games

PANJIM: The meeting of the 36th edition of the National Games held between the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials ended in a positive note.
“The dates for the Games have been confirmed and will be held on the dates which was announced earlier (October 20 to November 4, 2020),” informed GOA Secretary General Gurudatta Bhakta, who was present at the meeting.
“A website will be opened immediately so that people all over the country can access to all the details of the National Games”, he said.
Regarding the venues and infrastructure, Bhakta said it was decided that there is need to be speed up the work so as to finish on time and also the equipments need to be brought and test events need to be done.
The IOA officials also visited Sawalwada, Pernem and Peddem hockey site to take a look at the progress of work and the infrastructure.
On Tuesday, Mukesh Kumar informed that Rs 10 crore fine, which was imposed on the State, was a misinterpretation of what they were asking for as an additional hosting fee.
“The matter of the fine has been sorted out in amicable way. Earlier, the marketing money was to be equally shared between IOA and GOA but now the first share of Rs 6 crore will be given to the IOA and the rest will be equally distributed”, he said.
The meeting was also attended by Sports Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, GTCC chairman and six other members of GTCC.
