MANDOPA: SC Davorlim defeated Margao SC by a narrow 1-0 win to lift the Mandopa Cup organised by Mandopa SC, at Mandopa ground, on Sunday.
In the second minute itself, Margao’s Christopher Borges’ long ranger hit the side netting of Davorlim and went out of play.
Margao’s John Colaco had the best chance to score in the 20th minute but the latter shot wide.
At the other end, Davorlim’s Perryson Rebello’s left footed effort flew over the Margao cross bar in the 30th minute.
As the match progressed in the second half, Perryson Rebello netted the match winner for Davorlim with the placement shot in the 44th minute.
Margao tried their best to level terms but their strikers lacked sharpness.
The Davorlim keeper Selito Miranda was at his best throughout the match.
The winners were awarded Rs 30,000 while the runners-up received Rs 25,000 plus trophies.
Fr Seville Antao of Padre Pio seminary was the chief guest gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Edwin Cardozo ZP member of Navelim, Shubert Furtado, GFA vice-president of South Goa, Sidesh Bhagat Sarpanch of VP Aquem Baixo and other dignitaries.
