SAO JOSE DE AREAL: SC Davorlim defeated Nuvem SC 1-0 to emerge champions of the Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, on Sunday.
It was an exciting final. Mable Miranda of Davorlim missed a sitter in the 4th minute while Nuvem’s Richards Colaco long ranger narrowly missed the mark. It was Agnelo Colaco of SC Davorlim who scored the match-winner after receiving a perfect pass from Paxton Gomes in the 50th minute.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 and runners up had to settle with Rs 30,000.
Individual awards: Best goalkeeper: Sachin Astekar (SC Davorlim); First scorer of the final: Agnelo Colaco (SC Davorlim); Best defender: Richard Colaco (Nuvem SC); Best half: Stephen Colaco (Nuvem SC); Man-of-the-Match: Mable Miranda (SC Davorlim); Promising player of the tournament: Jeston Fernandes (Sao Jose de Areal); Best disciplined team: Curtorim Gymkhana.
Cuncolim MLA and chief guest Clafacio Dias gave away the prizes to the winners and runners up in the presence of Fr Richard Pinheiro parish priest of St Joseph church Sao Jose de Area, Fr Socoro Rebello asst parish priest of St Joseph Church Areal, Moreno Rebello ZP member Curtorim constituency, Arun Endro PSI Quepem Police station, Arnaldo Costa Secretary of Curtorim Gymkhana, Joaquim M DSilva South Goa GFA Referee officer and other dignitaries.
