RAIA: Sporting Club Davorlim, marched into the semi-finals after defeating youthful Verna Sports Club 7-6 via the tie-breaker in the 48th Chandor Seamen Cup football tournament organised by Chandor Club, at Chandor ground, on Friday.
Both teams played well and were looking to open their account when luck smiled on Sporting Club Davorlim through Agnelo Colaco, who placed the ball into the Verna SC net hoodwinking the keeper in the fifth minute.
Verna SC worked hard in search of an equaliser but had to concede the lead to Sporting Club Davorlim 1- 0 at interval.
Resuming play, the Verna SC lads huffed and puffed to level the score, but were kept at bay by a rock solid defence line of Sporting Club Davorlim. In the 58th minute, Verna SC’s Eusebio Fernandes shot was headed by Sporting Club Davorlim wingback towards his own goal which hit the goal post and rebounded on lap of the custodian and deflected inside.
