MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim prevailed over Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club, Paroda 4-2 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of Mc Dowell’s No. 1 Yaari Premier Cup (South Goa) inter-village football tournament organized by Enfermos Sports Club, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Saturday.
There was no score at full time. Both the teams played an attacking football and kept the crowd on their toes. Both had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards muffed gilt edged chances.
Post resumption, the teams showed urgency and unleashed barrage of attacks. However, the defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel intact.
With time running out, Sporting Club of Davorlim were desperate to find an opening and fired some sorties but Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club goalkeeper frustrated the rival attacks with fine reflexes and anticipation.
At the end of regulation time the teams failed to score.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Maclino Colaco, Paxton Gomes, Agnelo Colaco and Venson Figureido were on target for Sporting Club of Davorlim while Kanchan Khiro and Anthony Dias converted for Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club.
Meanwhile, Vagator Parish Youth will clash with Saligao Sporting Club on November 30, Sunday, in the North Goa inter village football tournament final organized by Vagator Parish Youth, at Ozran ground, Vagator, at 4.30 p.m.
The winner will receive Rs 50,000 while the runners-up will get Rs 30,000.
Water Resources Minister Dayanand Mandrekar will be chief guest while GFA Vice President North Goa Lavino Rebello and Deputy General Manager United Sprits K Gopinath will be the guests of honour.
