SCC Cavelossim give FC Goa tough time

PANJIM: Goa’s Hero Indian Super League franchise FC Goa played out a hard fought 2-2 draw against Goa Professional outfit Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in a friendly practice match, at Tilak Maidan, here, on Sunday.

The young local side coached by Severino Fernandes surprised FC Goa by taking the lead as medio Asley Fernandes scored a stunner from a quick free-kick after FC Goa custodian Luis Barretto was outside his position.
However, Zico’s men regrouped and equalized before the break after Darryl Duffy converted a penalty.
Post resumption, SCC Cavelossim showed no signs of slowing down and striker Melvin Fernandes made it 2-1 with a deft placement after being set up by Clencio Pinto in the 18-yard box.
With ten minutes to go for the final whistle, FC Goa were awarded a free-kick at the edge of the box and Duffy laid off the ball to unmarked Romeo Fernandes to salvage some pride for FC Goa, who take on Kerala Blasters FC on Thursday.
