SCC Cavelossim punish Calangute Association

Put up a brilliant display and netted a goal in each session through Melwin and Marcus

CALANGUTE: Santa Cruz Club Cavelossim avenged their first leg encounter defeat by scoring an impressive 2-0 victory over Calangute Association in the 10th round match of the Goa Pro League, at Poriat ground, here, on Monday.
In their previous league outing, Calangute managed to squeeze past Cavelossim 2-1.
SCC Cavelossim put up a brilliant display and netted a goal in each session through Melwin Fernandes and Marcus Fernandes.
SCC Cavelossim silenced the huge crowd that gathered to support their home team in the early moments of the match when Joshua Vaz set up Melwin Fernandes who on catching keeper Jason D’Mello off his line, flicked the ball over into the empty nets for the opener.
The Calangute colts failed to find the right combination among themselves in the entire first half
thereby giving the Cavelossim keeper Ram Sroop a field day.
Latesh Mandrekar managed to come up with a goal scoring opportunity for Calangute but failed to keep his cool in entering the Cavelossim danger zone.
Minutes before the half time whistle, SCC Cavelossim came close to doubling the score but Calangute keeper Jason came up with a brilliant save to thwart Rayman Fernandes in a one-to-one situation.
Hardly had the fans taken their seats on resumption of play, SCC Cavelossim struck once again when Marcus Fernandes on collecting the ball from Melwin Fernandes charged into the Calangute danger zone and unleashed a powerful shot which gave no chance to keeper Jason to make it 2-0.
Calangute tried their level best to get back into the match but their strikers failed to give
finishing touches to the moves.
The second session saw some brilliant goalkeeping by the SCC Cavelossim keeper who came with several good saves to ensure his slate remained clean. First, in the 49th minute, Ram came with a full stretched diving save to push away George D’Souza’s free-kick and then managed to keep away Pedro Gonsalves’s power-packed shot off another George’s free-kick.
In the 72nd minute, Nigerian striker Felix Chidi set up Pedro Gonsalves, whose blistering right footer was kept away by the diving keeper Ram only to see the ball roll towards Fulganco Cardozo. However, the latter fired the ball over the SCC Cavelossim goal to the dismay of his teammates.
