DULER: Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim scored a late goal to snatch points from Vasco Sports Club after a 3-2 win in the GFA’s Taca Goa U-20 League match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday.
The high paced encounter saw the teams go into the breather with a 2-2 draw where Jasper Dias and Gurpreet Singh scored for SCC Cavelossim while Biswajeet Rajput and Kingslee Fernandes shot on target for Vasco SC.
Both the sides dished out some good brand of soccer, keeping their supporters entertained throughout the encounter.
SCC Cavelossim did not waste much time and shot into the lead in the 5th minute of play when Jasper Pereira on getting hold of the ball inside the danger zone, unleashed a powerful left footer which crashed into the Vasco SC nets after brushing past the hands of the keeper.
Vasco SC had numerous chances to level terms, however their star striker, Kingslee Fernandes failed to find the target time and again.
At the other end SCC Cavelossim doubled their lead in the 16th minute of play when Gurpreet Singh leapt high above his marker to nod in the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Finding themselves down by two goals Vasco finally got their acts together and managed to reduce the margin in the 31st minute of play through Biswajeet Singh who scored off a direct free kick.
Boosted by the goal, Vasco SC stepped up the pressure and netted in the equalizer in the 40th minute of play wherein Kingslee Fernandes intelligently chipped the ball into the empty nets after he saw the keeper off his line making it 2-2.
Minutes before the halftime whistle Vasco squandered a goal scoring opportunity when Rajan Yadav set up unmarked Klisner Pereira who ran down the left flank only to shoot into the side netting.
Post resumption, both the sides looked determined to wrap up the match in their favour however their strikers lost ideas on entering the danger zone.
Kingslee Fernandes, who was a constant threat to the SCC Cavelossim defenders, tried his level best to put his side into the lead however luck failed to smile on the youngster.
With just a minute to go for the final hooter, SCC Cavelossim stunned their opponents as Snedden Medeira curled his left footer to find the match winner, into the far corner of the Vasco SC nets, leaving the keeper rooted to his spot.
