MARGAO: Social Cultural Club of Loutolim knocked out Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda 5-3 via the tie-breaker to storm into the finals of All-Goa Agnelo Mascarenhas inter-village football tournament organized by St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda at panchayat ground, Assolda, Thursday. The teams were tied 1-1 at full time.
Despite muddy conditions, the teams started attacking and Fr Agnelo took the lead in the eighth minute after striker Mackroy Lima slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stung by the early setback, Loutolim galvanized their attacks and raided the rival goal with well orchestrated raids and persistent forays paid off in the 15th minute when Mark Fernandes punted the ball to the far corner of the net for the equalizer.
Post resumption, the teams went all-out, as a result there were umpteen thrills at goal. They created good chances in the final quarter but their forwards lacked sharpness.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Royce, Volney Vaz, Mandar Naik, Jelson scored for Loutolim while Ramchandra, Gaonkar and Avision D’Costa converted for Fr Agnelo.
Social Cultural Club of Loutolim will now meet St Anthony’s Sports Club, Colva in the finals on June 16.
