SCG’s ‘POTS’ Gourav terminates contract; likely to join ISL club

PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa’s best player of the season Gourav Kankonkar has terminated his contract with the club and islikely to join an Indian Super League club for the upcoming season.

Speaking to the players’ agent, Sanroy D’Souza confirmed the player has terminated his contract with the club and is in talks with Indian Super League for a possible move.

“In accordance with Article 14bis of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players February 2021 edition and Article 17 of the AIFF Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players 2021, Gourav has now unilaterally terminated  his contract,” the player agent stated.

It is learnt that the player who was signed for 6 years by the club wasn’t paid his due salary within stipulated time and hence appealed to the AIFF for the same. 

However, a six year contract is barred byboth AIFF and FIFA’s regulations on player contracts. As per the article 21.2 of FIFA and AIFF’s Status and Transfer of Players states, “The minimum length of contract shall befrom its effective date until the end of the season, while the maximum length of a contract shall be five years. Contracts of any other length shall only be permitted if consistent with national laws. Players under the age of 18 may notsign a professional contract for a term longer than three years. Any clause referring to a longer period shall not be recognised. 

The agent stated that they are in talks with multiple ISL clubs and is confident of signing for the upcoming season. “We are still talking with the clubs and evaluating the offers. It’s a busy hour for us,” stated D’Souza who was still negotiating with the clubs till 11 p.m.
