Security irks Goan authorities

PANJIM: The bouncer security staff at the Fatorda Stadium has irked several Goan authorities and media. The latest case has been of the in charge of fire and emergencies of Margao Fire Station, who was rudely handled and disallowed from entering the VVIP area of the stadium to attend a fire emergency during match. A carpet below the VVIP stand in the stadium caught fire due to short circuit and was thankfully contained by the fire staff.
However, when the in charge of Margao Fire Station Gil Souza attempted to enter and help the staff with the emergency he was handled rudely and in uncalled manner by the bouncers security at the gate.
“We are people who need to be there at such events by default as there can be any kind of emergencies. But the way we are handled is the most condemnable,” said Gil.
“I would like to go out and say that the stadium is ours and the rights of the locals and authorities need to be protected,” Gil added.
It is also learnt that the Additional Collector of Salcete also had such an experience of security disallowing them from attending duties. This hasn’t stopped here. On the first match even some of the media persons were badly handled and their cameras, memory cards and identity cards were snatched by some security personnel.
“There is a threat to lives at the stadium and has to be dealt with seriously,” said Gil.
There are another eight matches of FC Goa to be played at the Fatorda Stadium and there is a possibility of several such incidents to occur in the future.
