PANJIM: What none could in the last two season, Sesa Football Acadmey did it on Wednesday evening as they handed Sporting Clube de Goa their first defeat in two years in the Goa Professional League Super League with a 2-0 win at Duler.
The defeat also dealt a huge blow for Sporting Clube de Goa’s title defence.
Kunal Salgaokar gave Sesa the lead in the 15th minute and then Mohammed Faheez doubled the account in the 62nd minute.
Starting on a commanding note, Sporting should have taken a 10th minute lead when Allan Peixoto sent in a cross to Marcus Mascarenhas but the last name’s header was saved by the rival keeper.
Sporting were denied any breakthrough due to solid defensive play by Sesa FA.
At the other end, Sesa managed to break the deadlock in the 15th minute when Fameez played a cut back pass to Kunal, who slotted home to make it 1-0.
Sporting’s defense wasn’t at their best. They were clumsy which nearly cost them the second goal but Ozen Silva made a fine save to deny Fameez.
While the attack failed to convert and real threatening move, Sporting defense was vulnerable and error prone. Alton played a wrong pass to opponent Omkar who was denied by Ozen once again just before the first half.
In the second half, it looked like Sporting Clube de Goa came with a game plan to get back and they almost did when Rio Fernandes passed the ball to Llyod Mascarenhas but the Sesa keeper denied him with a smart save.
At the hour mark, Sesa scored their second against the run of play when Kunal combined with Faheez who headed the ball in the goal to make it 2-0.
