PANJIM: Sesa Football Academy scored a thrilling 4-3 win over Salgaocar FC Juniors in the Geno-Goa Football Association 1st Division League match played at Sirsaim ground, on Monday.
Sesa boys dominated the first half with a 3-0 lead as the table toppers looked ahead to a comfortable win in the second half. Olvin opened the account for SFA as he scored an excellent goal from close range. Anil ran past three defenders to provide the low cross and assist to SFA top scorer in the 17th minute.
At the half hour mark SFA doubled the account when Olvin made a run against three Salgaocar defenders and provided a low cross into the feet of Joston, who scored from close range to make it 2-0 advantage SFA.
Olvin was on fire as in under five minutes he scored a stunning solo goal, beating the offside trap on his right foot and a perfect finish to give SFA 3-0 lead in the first half.
Changing ends, Salgaocar made a daring comeback in the second half as their number 10 Steflon D’Costa scored three headers in 53rd, 58th and 73rd minutes to bring the game at a level. Both teams tried hard to get the winning goal and in the dying minutes of the game, it was captain of SFA Anil who stepped up to score from the right flank, cutting inside to place it in the left corner. SFA clinched all three points in the 88th minute as Anil’s goal turned out to be the decider. He was awarded man of the match for his performance.
At Ella ground, Dempo Sports Club Juniors scored a last gasp winner over 10 men St Savio SC.
The match was evenly contested and the majority of the time the teams shared no goals. St Savio SC were reduced by a man when Ashok Medheri was show straight red card in the 68th minute by the referee for rough play. Dempo SC kept pressing till the end and finally broke the deadlock in the 90+4 minutes through Cletus Pinto.
At Rosary ground, Navelim, Milagres Fernandes scored two late goals to help Curtorim Gymkhana claw back to beat United Club of Telaulim 4-3.
Fleming Dias had given UC Telaulim an early 3rd minute lead but Cliff Barreto made it all square at the half hour mark. Telaulim took the lead once again through Nitin before Curtorim levelled terms just before the breather through Aliston Fernandes.
Crossing over, M Hurlikar gave Telaulim the lead once again before Milagres scored a brace to give his side full points. Curtorim’s Milagres was named the man-of-the-match.
