PANJIM: Sixteen trainees (2018-2023 batch) from Sesa Football Academy (SFA) were felicitated at the convocation ceremony at academy campus, Sirsaim.
Sports Minister Govind Gaude, Navin Jaju, CEO of Sesa Goa-Vedanta Limited, P K Mukherjee, non-executive independent director, SCDF, Saptesh Sardesai, CEO-VAB, Vedanta Limited and Brahmanand Sankhwalkar were present alongwith the coaches, staff and executives from Vedanta Sesa Goa. After completing the residential training programme they are set to begin their football professional career.
Gaude appreciated the contribution in grassroot football as it aims to develop quality footballers from Goa and across the country by creating environment for discovering, nurturing, and building talent for Indian football. The academy identifies and trains talented youngsters, who are passionate about football at the grassroot level by inducting them into its residential programme for four years, he said.
SFA has groomed 183 footballers since 1999 with the alumni having represented at the National team, I-League clubs. In all, nine players have earned the National team cap and many alumni have played in the elite Indian Super League (ISL)
Navin Jaju spoke about Vedanta’s larger vision of giving back to the communities through sports, transforming India into a global sporting powerhouse. Annanya Agarwal spoke about Vedanta’s unwavering dedication, perseverance, and passion for the beautiful game.
