MAPUSA: Host Goa continued their impressive run in the Hero Santosh Trophy-West Zone Qualifiers with a thumping 7-1 win over Madhya Pradesh in Group B, organised by GFA, at Duler stadium, here on Wednesday.
Goa led 3-0 at the breather with the goals coming from Lesly Rebello, Devendra Murgaokar, Stendly Fernandes, Samuel Costa, Joaquim Abranches and Aaren D’Silva (2) while Sahil Rajak found the net for Madhya Pradesh.
Lesly Rebello put Goa infront in the 10th minute after getting hold of a poor clearance from MP defender Dalwinder Singh to fire the ball into the net.
Goa consolidated their lead in the 21st minute when Chaitan Komarpant’s rasping left footer was too hot for keeper Mohammed to handle and the ball travelled to Devendra who without any hesitation placed the ball into the goal to make it 2-0.
MP need to thank their keeper Mohammed for keeping them in the match in the first session as he brought some timely saves to deny the Goan strikers but was helpless on the third goal which was scored by Stendly Fernandes with a firm grounder to make it 3-0.
Crossing ends, Joaquim Abranches who had a quiet outing squandered an easy sitter for Goa from a cross delivered by Chaitan Komarpant.
Samuel Costa made it 4-0 for Goa with a scorching right footer which bulged into the net minutes after Devendra failed to find a goal from close range.
Miscommunication by the Goan stopper backs Joseph Clemente and Mathew Gonsalves in the 52nd minute saw Madhya Pradesh H Rama Swamy pounce onto the ball an release substitute Sahil Rajak who beat keeper Melroy Fernandes with a deft placement to make it 4-1.
Joaquim Abranches made it 5-1 minutes later and it did not take long for Goa to further inflate the score tally through substitute Aaren Silva who got two goals in the closing ten minutes.
The first goal coming from the spot kick after he was brought by MP defender Aseem Khan inside the penalty box and the second with a neat connection from a perfect cross delivered by Chaitan Komarpant, 7-1.
In the morning match Rajasthan got their first win of the campaign by drubbing Dadra and Nagar Haveli 4-0.
After a barren first session Rajasthan scored all the goals in the last quarter of the match through Jayesh Kumar, Gajendra Singh Meena, Trilok Singh and Sanjay Lamba.
