MAPUSA: A brilliant hat-trick by Shadab Sheikh enabled unbeaten PVC, Parra, to defeat Cunchelim SC 4-2 in GFA’s Second Division Football League match at Parra ground, here on Thursday.
Parra went into the breather with a 3-1 lead. Cyprian Rodrigues, Shadab Sheikh (2) scored for Parra while Rohit Bharti pulled a goal back for Cunchelim at half time.
Parra lads were indeed the superior side. They could have taken an early lead but Sahil Jalmi’s and Pawan Kurade’s strikes were saved by Cunchelim’s custodian Pranav Amonkar.
Finally, Parra broke the deadlock in the 16th minute as a stiff grounder by Joston Cardoz was too hot for goalkeeper Pranav to handle and overlapping Cyprian Rodrigues slotted the ball in. Just two minutes later, Parra doubled the lead as a cross from Joston was headed by Shadab.
If not for two brilliant saves by the Cunchelim custodian, Parra’s Joston and Shadab could have added their names to the list of scorers.
While Parra missed, Cunchelim pulled a goal back in the 35th minute. Rohit Parsekar’s strike was blocked by diving Parra’s goalkeeper Ritesh Narvekar and Ritesh Bharti, who was following up, tapped the ball in.
After two more goal bound moves by Parra’s Shadab were saved by custodian Pranav, the striker managed to record his brace with a brilliant solo effort.
A minute before the breather, Cunchelim’s Rohit lost a glorious chance to score from close.
Just two minutes after the interval, the Cunchelim custodian managed to push Shadab’s placement for a corner. However, in the 60th minute the Cunchelim custodian could not prevent Shadab from scoring his hat-trick after Joyston had done the spadework.
Cunchelim did not surrender and managed to further reduce the margin in the 85th minute as a rasping 25-yard shot by Nayan Virnodkar had no answer from Parra’s goalkeeper Ritesh.
At Duler stadium, Bidesh XI managed to edge past Assonora United FC 2-1. Minguel Pereira netted a brace for Bidesh . After the interval, Siddesh Pednekar pulled a goal back for Assonora United.
