Shane bags top honours

The champion remained unbeaten in the tournament; Ameya and Aishwarya secured the second and third places respectively

PANJIM: Shane Braganza bagged top honours at the all-Goa rapid open chess tournament organized by AIM Higher Secondary School, Davorlim and Salcete Taluka Chess Association, at the school hall, recently. A total of 112 players from the State participated including 45 rated players.
Shane Braganza (1707) won the tournament beating Sahil Shetty in the last round to remain unbeaten. Top seed Ameya Audi had to content with the second place. Aishwarya Thorat beat Gunjal chopdekar in the last round to claim the third place.
Swera Braganza claimed the fourth place after splitting points with Mrinal Telang in the last round while Datta Kambli beat Leon Mendonca to claim the fifth position.
At the prize distribution ceremony, President of Anjuman Islahul Meslameeen Ashraf Pandial was the chief guest and Shiraj, manager of the AIM HSS was the guest of honour. 
Ashesh Keni, Vice-President of Goa Chess Association; Sagar Sakordekar ,Vice-President Goa Chess Assocaition; Damodar Zambaulikar, secretary of Salcete Taluka Chess Association were also present.
Sanjay Kavlekar was the chief arbiter while Swapnil Hoble was the deputy arbiter and Sopan Kudchadkar was the assistant arbiter. Cash Prizes and trophies worth Rs 20,000 were distributed to the winners.
