RAIA: In a thrilling showdown, Shannon Veterans scored a commanding 2-0 win over Vasco Veterans to secure final berth in the All-Goa Clement Memorial Veterans Football tournament played at Varca ground, on Monday.
The match started on a brilliant note with Alvito D’Cunha orchestrating a mesmerising solo effort, slicing through Vasco Veterans defence to deftly place the ball beyond the goalkeeper’s reach, propelling Shannon to a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Despite Vasco Veterans’ valiant attempts to regroup through the efforts of Uday, Athul and Raju, they were repeatedly thwarted by the seasoned midfield trio of Bibiano, Johnny D’Cruz, and Prestly.
Goalkeeper Vikrant made some crucial saves to keep Shannon Veterans in the game. As Vasco Veterans pressed forward in search of an equaliser, Shannon Veterans seized the opportunity with Pratap capitalising on a sublime cross from Prestly to secure their second goal. Shannon Veterans solidified their place in the final, setting the stage for an epic showdown against Fatorda Veterans on April 7.
Alvito was adjudged man-of-the-match award for his stellar performance.
