PANJIM: Shibin K Benny emerged champion in Category C at the 1st Goa international Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament, at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao, on Sunday.
Shibin finished on nine points, on par with Parekh Vishrut, however, the former topped the chart with a better tie-break point. Ranjith Kalaiyarasan finished third with 8.5 points.
Goa’s Pednekar Ayush finished 17th with 7.5 points while Anvesh Bandekar finished 28th with same number of points. Paarth P Salvi, Aryan Shamrao Raikar and Sachin Gaude are the other Goans to finish in top 45 position with seven points a piece.
On the top board, Prasath K R, who led with 8.5 points was stunned by Shibin and was send packing to fifth position.
On board two, Parekh beat Aanandha Kumar MS.
