Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has been moved out of the ICU at a Sydney hospital after sustaining a spleen laceration during the third ODI against Australia. The BCCI confirmed that his condition is stable and showing steady improvement.
The 30-year-old Mumbai cricketer suffered the injury on October 25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground while diving full stretch to take a brilliant catch that dismissed Alex Carey. Moments after the catch, Iyer was seen in severe pain and was taken off the field before being rushed to the hospital for scans.

According to the BCCI’s medical update, the scans revealed a laceration to the spleen that had caused internal bleeding. Fortunately, there were no further complications, and Iyer responded well to treatment.
“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib-cage region while fielding during the third ODI in Sydney. Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well,” the BCCI stated.
Team doctor Dr Rizwan Khan will stay back in Sydney to monitor Iyer’s recovery alongside local specialists. Meanwhile, the rest of the Indian team has travelled to Canberra for the upcoming T20I series starting October 29.
Sources close to the team confirmed that Iyer is out of danger but will remain under hospital observation for a few more days. His family members are expected to fly to Sydney once visa formalities are complete.
Though there is no official word on his return timeline, Iyer is likely to miss the upcoming South Africa ODI series in India. The BCCI has stated that there will be no rush to bring him back into action
