PANJIM: Shri Shantadurga Higher Secondary School, Bicholim, edged past Government Higher Secondary School, Khandola 3-2 in the senior boys clash of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football league, at the Ganeshpuri Complex football ground, on Friday.

The early half of the second session turned out to be a midfield battle with goal mouth thrills few and far between with Shri Shantadurga having a slight edge. Eventually, Brijesh Kankonkar put Shri Shantadurga in the lead in the 67th minute only to see Government HSS Khandola being awarded a penalty four minutes later when Vikas Kholkar was fouled in the danger zone. Alden D’Souza made no mistake from the spot.
Shri Shantadurga as regrouped quickly and attacked with vigour and scored through Durgesh Mandrekar’s sublime long range strike that left the rival goalkeeper rooted in his track in the 79th minute. That goal turned out to be a well-deserved win for the school from Bicholim with Mandrekar emerging the player-of-the-match.
