RAWANFOND: Shubert Pereira inspired Dempo SC to a 4-0 victory over Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao in the U-20 TACA Goa football, organised by GFA, at 3MTR ground, Navelim-Rawanfond on Wednesday.
Shubert scored a brace in the 20th and 65th minute while Desmond Pereira (69th) and Assumption Soares (90+) scored for the Golden Eagles.
Dempo SC dominated the play right from the first whistle and almost took the lead in the third minute but Vineet Budge’s effort was brilliantly saved by rival keeper Vinesh Shirodkar.
At the other end, Ronald Dias header off Prajot Mondol’s cross was easily collected by the Dempo keeper Preston Rego.
The Taleigao side failed to hold Shubert and Vineet, as the duo combined brilliantly for the Golden Eagles with their pace and skills that saw them easily surpass the rival defence.
Dempo SC had the upper hand in the first twenty minutes and Shubert finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute of a set piece. Vineet took a perfect freekick that saw found Shubert at the receiving end and the latter’s effort gave no chance for the rival keeper.
Dempo could have doubled the lead but Alviton Silva’s 38th minute strike hit the woodwork and went out of the play.
Crossing ends, Taleigao came back strongly in the initial minutes wherein Ronaldo Dias saw his long range effort timely blocked by alert Dempo defender Osmiro Trindade.
Dempo SC captain was outstanding throughout the evening as he tirelessly worked to assist the strikers.
The former India captain almost scored in the 56th minute but was once again denied by the Taleigao keeper.
At the hour mark, Shubert doubled the lead for the Golden Eagles with a simple low shot after playing a swift one-two with captain Vineet that broke the rival defence with ease.
Taleigao had the chance to score through Substitute Rajesh Kankonkar but he shot wide.
In the 69th minute, Desmon Pereira made it 3-0 for Dempo SC.
In the second half additional time, Dempo hit the final nail in the coffin when Assumption Soares soared high to nod home Aaron Rodrigues’ corner kick.
