MAPUSA: Sinquerim Sports Club had an easy outing as they drubbed Saligao Sporting Club 4-1 in the GFA’s 2nd Division League match, at Duler Stadium here on Friday.
The Sinquerim team that was reduced to ten men in the sixth minute with the sending off their keeper Devraj Tari scored two goals in each session of play.
Sinquerim received a jolt with the sending off their keeper Devraj Tari by the referee, when he brought down Noel Naik outside the penalty box who was on the point of scoring.
It was indeed a marvellous display from the Sinquerim players who drew first blood in the 19th minute when Chetan set up Joaquim just outside the penalty box who dribbled past two defenders and squared the ball back to Chetan who tapped it home to give his side the lead.
Ten minutes later, Chetan sent a short corner to Ashish who scored from outside the box to make it 2-0.
On resumption of play, the Sinquerim players continued their onslaught and pumped in two more goals through Chetan (73rd) and Salil Pawar (80th minute).
In the 90th minute, Saligao scored a consolation goal with Ajay Diwadkar guiding the ball into the goal off a cross by Aloke to make it 4-1.
Meanwhile at Poriat ground, Candolim Sports Club registered a well deserved 4-2 win over Holy Cross Arambol to stay on top the league table with 18 points from 8 matches, while Holy Cross with just four points are fighting relegation.
In the 36th minute, Candolim’s Pundalik Naik failed to nod the ball in front of an open goal to the dismay of his teammates.
While Candolim dominated it was Arambol that surged ahead.
Arambol’s Stephelton Fernandes’ strike at the goal from close took a wicked deflection off the leg of Candolim defender Akshay to find the ball roll into the goal to give his side the lead.
Stung by the reverse, the Candolim team went all out in search of the equaliser. In the 43rd minute, a 40 yard shot by Loyed Rebello crashed into the back of Arambol’s net to make it 1-1.
Candolim almost took the lead two minutes later but Michael Dias’ header off Blake Haldankar’s cross went just past the side post.
On crossing ends, in the 55th minute, Candolim further extended their lead when a 25-yard strike by Pundalik Naik went into the far corner of the goal to make it 2-1.
Candolim netted their third goal after Michael Dias’ header hit Arambol’s defender Pratamesh before entering the goal to make it 3-1.
Candolim’s substitute Saprem Diukar after getting hold of a pass from Blake scored with a neat placement to make it 4-1.
In the closing stages of the match, Arambol’s Abrahim Fernandes scored their second goal to make it 4-2.
