MARGAO/MAPUSA: A seven-goal blitz by striker Stanley Fernandes helped Sirlim Sports Club to demolish Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association 19-0 in GFA Under-14 football tournament, at Dramapur ground, Saturday.
Sirlim Sports Club led 8-0 at half time. Sirlim out played their opponents in all departments of the games as their opponents were struggling to contain the rival rampaging forwards.
Clenin D’Costa added to rival miseries when he struck thrice. Savlon Cardozo, Desmond Fernandes and Akash scored a brace each while Litjen D’Costa, Akash Gurkha and Valit Shaik accounted one goal each.
Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim humbled Football Club of Neura 4-1 in the inaugural match of Ilhas Zone at Don Bosco School ground, Panjim.
Adlear T. D’Cruz, general secretary of the Goa Football Association declared open the Ilhas Zone League in which a total of seven teams will be participating, apart from the above two other teams are Fr Agnel, Pilar; Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao, Portais Sporting Club, CDJ Ribandar and Ponda Footballers.
Football Club Neura playing their first match against a tough opponent were nervous and the Neura goalkeeper Harsh Naik was outstanding in the first half, who came to his teams rescue on three occasions by preventing Nikhil Correia, Akash Parwar and Sarfaraz Sayad of Don Bosco Oratory from scoring.
At half time, the score was 0-0.
In the second half, Don Bosco Oratory came with renewed vigour and scored the first goal when Akash Parwar punted the ball in off a Nikhil’s pass.
Neura conceded a self goal when Sidharaj Naik clearance deflected into his own goal.
Neura reduced the margin when Sidharaj Naik scored a beautiful goal of a direct free kick to make it 2-1.
Don Bosco Oratory scored two quick goals through Nikhil Correia and Sarfaraz Sayad to make it 4-1. Cyrus Rodrigues and Nicholas Albuquerque played well for Don Bosco in defence. The match was supervised by referee Ramesh Martins.
In the Barzez zone, Anjuna Gymkhana held St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna, Siolim to a 1-1 draw at Siolim ground, Saturday.
Saish gave St Anthony’s the lead in the first session but Anjuna bounced back in the second session and equalized through a self-goal by a rival defender.
