PANJIM: Six teams from Benaulim Centre qualified for the Inter Centre League to be held from November to February 2014 in Vodafone-GFDC Rising Stars Football Festival, which aims at providing an ideal platform to budding talent at grass root levels with the slogan “Yeo Pora, Ghe Bol. Maar Moja, Shoot Goal”.
In the under-12 boys category, St. John (champions), St. Sebastian (runners-up) qualified while in under-10 boys, Fr. Juze Vaz (champions), St. Anthony (runners-up).
In under-12 girls, Ave Maria Pearls (winners) and Ave Maria Diamonds (runners-up) have qualified. They now join the qualifying teams from Khadepar and Navelim, which have already made their way in the inter centre league.
In the closing ceremony, GFDC Council Member Liberata Mascarenhas congratulated the kids for participating in the two-month long first of its kind league and urged them to continue with the spirit.
During the ceremony, the locals witnessed an exquisite match between Ave Maria Pearls and Ave Maria Diamonds. Winning teams were honoured with medals in the presence of participants, parents, village elders and other key local personalities.
