MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club prevailed over Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 5-4 via the tie-breaker to march into the semi-final of All-Goa Youth Club of Manora inter-village football tournament organized by Youth Club of Manora at Manora ground, Raia, on Thursday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation period.
The teams adopted aggressive approach and kept the crowds on their toes. However, Sao Jose de Areal took control over the match and fired couple of pot shots against the rival citadel. Persistent forays bore fruit when Francis Baretto bulged the net from close, 1-0.
Stung by the setback, Cavelossim had a couple of opportunities but their forwards muffed gilt edged chances.
Crossing over, Cavelossim put up a better display with their forwards working in tandem. Soon, Shaun D’Costa neutralized the score with a clinical finish.
Sao Jose de Areal went into attacking mode after conceding the goal and had had scoring chances but their forwards frittered away from ideal positions.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Agio Antao, Francis Baretto, Bersel Viegas and Mariano Rebello scored for Areal while Yuri Ferrao, Freddy D’Souza and Mohammed Shaikh converted for Cavelossim.
