MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club prevailed over Enfermos Sports Club 6-5, via tie-breaker to cruise into the semi-final of the All-Goa Jose Bento Furtado memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Goa Football Referees Association at Rosary ground, Navelim on Monday.
Both the teams adopted an aggressive approach and kept the crowds on their toes but there were few thrills at either end. As the match progressed, Enfermos took control of the game but their forwards were guilty of misfiring from hand shaking distance.
At the other end, Sao Jose had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards squandered from point blank range.
Post resumption, Sao Jose put up a better display and enjoyed the better share of exchanges. Sao Jose nearly broke the deadlock but Shelton Dias shot wide with only the rival goalkeeper to beat.
With time running out, Sao Jose went all out but their forwards ran out of ideas after reaching the rival danger zone.
In the penalty shoot out, Fredric Endro, Agio Antao, Shelton Dias, Allister Moura and Mario Rebello were on target for Sao Jose while Wilton Gomes, Bitu Singh, Roval Gomes, Jerson Pereira and Avelon Gomes converted for Enfermos. In the sudden death, Silvester Carvalho was successful for Sao Jose while Alvito failed for Enfermos.
