PANJIM: Smt. Tarabai High School, Pale, Usgao emerged champions of the all-Goa U-14 inter-school girls’ volleyball tournament by defeating Government High School, Menkure in a close encounter by 25-15, 21-25 & 17-15, organised by Kreeda Bharati Goa to commemorate its silver jubilee year at municipality ground, Ponda.
In the final set, Govt. HS led 15-14, but at the end Smt. Tarabai Dalvi High School came back strongly to win the game 17-15. Lokmanya Tilak Vidyalay, Kavale – Ponda won third place.
In semi-finals, Govt. High School, Menkure beat R D Khalap High School, Mandre by 21-6, 21-17. In the second semi-final, Smt.Tarabai Dalvi HS, Pale cruised past Lokmanya Tilak Vidyalay, Kavle by 21-9, 21-13.
A total of seven teams participated in the tournament. The other schools that participated in the tournament were Our Lady of Merces High School, Merces, Indirabai V Bhat Dhavalikar High School, Dhavali, R. D. Khalap High School, Mandre and Swastik Vidyalay, Priol.
Arun Shet – ex volleyball National player opened the tournament. In his address, he appreciated the school teachers for encouraging girl students to play the volleyball game. Speaking on the occasion Secretary of Kreeda Bharati Goa Sudesh Thakur said, “The main aim of conducting this tournament is to bring the girl child in the volleyball game which is mainly dominated by the male.”
Aachal Amrut Parob of Government High School, Menkure won the best player trophy.
