CUNCOLIM: Snow’s Football Academy, Raia had to wait until the tie-breaker to shoot-out Chandor Sports Club 7-6 (3-3) to emerge as champions of the Yaari Cup inter-village (South Goa) football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union, at Cuncolim School ground, on Sunday.
Chandor SC led 3-2 at the breather. It was striker Lloyd Cardozo who gave an early lead to Snow’s Football Academy in the fifth minute off a pass from Oilex Oliveira. The lead was short-lived as medio Fhezer Gomes equalised for Chandor Sports Club within two minutes.
Chador SC dominated the match but missed two goal scoring chances through Benson Fernandes. Chandor played attacking football and scored two quick goals through Sunny Fernandes in the 20th and 22nd minutes of the first session.
After trailing 3-1, Snow’s FA showed some urgency and missed an open goal scoring chance through Oilex Oliveira. Lloyd Cardozo scored his second goal in the 30th minute capitalizing on a rebound off defender Irfan Yadwad Chandor SC to make it 3-2.
In the second session, Lloyd Cardozo scored third goal and completed his hat-trick to make it 3-3 for Snow’s FA.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Lloyd Cardozo, Sockey Cardozo, Velitan Fernandes and Allwyn Dias scored for Snow’s FA while Irfan Yadwad, Akram Yadwad and Joaquim Carvalho were on target for Chandor SC.
Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, leader of opposition was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Sushil Sharma, State head, DIAGEO INDIA, Joe Dias VJT ,Prakash Dessai, Elvis Gomes GFA president and other dignitaries.
