CHANDOR: Snows Football Academy, Raia got the better of Navelim Villagers Union by 3-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 15th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club and played at Chandor Church ground.
The match started with Snows FA attacking the Navelim goal right from the word go.
In the second minute, the Navelim defenders failed to read a backpass and Lloyd Cardozo of Snows FA who was lurking around took advantage and rounded the Navelim keeper to score an easy goal.
Stung by the early goal, Navelim tried to commit more men forward but this move worked to Snows advantage as in the sixth minute Joyston Barbosa took advantage of a long clearance from his own half as he found himself with a lot of space and in an one-to-one situation with the Navelim keeper, Joyston scored by placing the ball to the far corner.
Navelim did get a chance to score in the 16th minute but their striker Sheldon Peixoto shot wide.
In the 19th minute, Lloyd Cardozo of Snows scored his second goal when he connected a cross from the right wing.
In the 24th minute, Navelim’s Travis Souza pulled a goal back when his arrow bound shot found the back of Snows net giving no chance to the rooted the Snows keeper.
Navelim then started to exert more pressure on the Snows defence but could not score any more goals till the lemon break.
Crossing over, Navelim tried hard to score but the Snows defence was a hard nut to crack.
Navelim’s Rowan Pereira almost scored in the 45th minute but his placement shot was parried away by the Snows keeper.
In the 57th minute Navelim’s Avlon Gomes shot wide with only the Snows keeper at his mercy.
Navelim finally managed to score their second goal in the 63rd minute when Wilson Fernandes headed the ball in from a corner kick.
No more goals were scored thus giving Snows FA a well deserved victory who will now meet Carmona SC in the quarter-finals on February 7.
