MARGAO: Sohail Shaikh and Pranali Naik won the A-18 Senior men and women categories respectively in the 13th All-Goa SQAY Martial Arts State Level championship held at Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, at Fatorda, recently.
A total of 392 students from both the districts participated in the championship.
The Gold medalists from different age groups and weight categories will represent Goa in upcoming National Level Championship which is to be held at Chandigarh from September 21.
The following are the champions of various categories: U-11 cadet girls: Sweata Pandit; U-11 cadet boys: Albert Ferrao; U-14 Sub-Junior girls: Grazia Luiza Furtado; U-14 Sub-Junior boys: Deep Morajkar; U-18 Junior Girl: Miss Sakshi Sawant; U-18 Junior Boy: Purvesh Kirlosker; A-18 Senior Women: Pranali Naik; A-18 Senior Men: Sohail Shaikh.
Sensei Vivek Pednekar was awarded as the best referee while Sensei Suresh Kumar Sarsar and Sensei Sachin Shinde were awarded the best coach and best instructor respectively.
Sensei Famila Fernandes, Sensei Valeni D’Souza, Sensei Alisha Travasso, Sensei Sanket Gawande, Sensei Akash Rathod, Sensei Vedant Karekar were awarded Rising Stars of the Association while Sachin Bhosle was awarded the best-student-of-the-year.
Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa V M Prabhudessai was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up. He congratulated the SQAY Association of Goa, for being on the top list in the medal tally for last 7 years.
He also encouraged students to take sports as the career as through sports they learn how to be in discipline, commitment and should be always enthusiastic.
