MARGAO: Southern Command defeated South Western Command 4-2 in the semi-final to cruise into the finals of Army Inter Command Football Championship at 3MTR ground, Navelim, Thursday. The teams were tied 2-2 at half time.
Southern Command will meet holders Central Command in the finals on November 23.
Jotin Singh scored a hat-trick while Dipen Thapa added to the tally for Southern Command while Binod Subedi and Ramesh Dhan reduced the margin for South Western Command.
In the first semi-final, Central Command prevailed over Eastern Command 6-5 via the tie-breaker after both the teams were tied 1-1 at full time. Tsheing Bhutia drew the first blood for Eastern Command while Biswajit Ghosh cancelled the lead for Central Command.
In the penalty shoot out, Anisbhanaryan Ray, Biswajit Ghosh, Mahidulamalick, S Suresh and Parveer Singh converted for Central Command while Rakesh Singh, Francis Z, Ladhulwma and Amar Singh scored for Eastern Command.
Earlier, Lt General PR Shankar [VSM] GOC and M&G, Area, who was the chief guest was introduced to the teams.
