PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa will look to continue with the winning momentum when they take on Maharashtra Oranje FC at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Thursday.
Sporting secured a 2-0 win against United SC in Kolkata in their last match. They had bounced back after going down by a solitary-goal to league leaders FC Bengaluru United FC despite dominating the match.
“Preparation is good and the confidence and morale of our players is high after the win in Kolkata. But we must not be overconfident since it’s our home game and have to perform well,” said Sporting assistant coach Climax Lawrence.
Bengaluru United are on nine points after four games. Oranje and Sporting Clube both have seven points each after four outings. Oranje are second while Sporting sit third in the eight-team league where the first two will gain promotion to next season’s I-League.
The Maharashtra outfit are high on confidence after back-to-back victories against Sudeva Delhi FC (3-0) and Kenkre FC (1-0) in the derby.
But Sporting are wary of their opponents and will try to end their fine run.
“They (Oranje FC) are playing well. It’s going to be a tough match tomorrow. Their style is similar to ours as they like to keep the ball. We have to play our natural game,” said the former India captain.
