Sporting Clube edge past SCC Cavelossim

DULER: Sporting Clube de Goa managed to score a narrow 1-0 win over Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the GFA’s Taca Goa U-20 league, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.

With Tuesday’s win Sporting climb to the top of the league table with 10 points from four matches while SCC Cavelossim have 9 points from five matches.
Both the sides went into halftime locked in a goalless draw.
It was Cavelossim who had the first crack at the rival goal when in the 15th minute of play Veegan Ferrao fired in a powerful free kick which was neatly kept away by the Sporting keeper.
The SCC Cavelossim colts managed to hold ball possession but it was the Sporting Clube lads who were much focused on the attacking front.
Daryl Costa on getting hold of a loose ball unleashed a powerful shot which was thwarted in time by Cavelossim defender Anil Shivolker.
In the 28th minute of play Gautam Dias sent a defence splitting pass to Snedden Rodrigues who surprisingly blasted the ball wide from handshaking distance.
A minute before half-time Gautam Dias made a fine run into the Cavelossim citadel and sent in a curling right footer which was saw the Cavelossim keeper collect the ball.
Post resumption, Gautam Dais once again created a scoring opportunity for Sporting Clube when on collecting the ball from Daryl Costa he fired in a shot which was kept away by the diving Cavelossim keeper.
At the other end Mathew Colaco sent in a dangerous cross into the heart of the Sporting Clube penalty area however Aaren D’Silva failed to keep his cool when it mattered most.
In the 53rd minute of play Cavelossim came dangerously close to taking the lead when Sporting Clube’s defender Joel Colaco in the process of clearing away Moises D’Sa’ curling free kick saw the ball hit his own goal post.
After some midfield play Cavelossim came attacking yet again when Aaren D’Silva set up Marc D’Cruz who seeing the keeper off his line tried to lob the ball over however the keeper made a quick retreat and managed to tip the ball over for a corner.
Sporting Clube created several invasive forays however Alston Camotlo and Akeraj Martins faltered from close range.
In the 83rd minute of play Sporting Clube managed to break the deadlock when Daryl Costa set up Perryson Fernandes who after getting the better of his marker slotted the ball home, 1-0.
