Sporting Clube face Bengaluru Utd challenge

PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa may have faced some setbacks but cannot be counted out as the race to finish in the top two of I-League 2 is getting exciting.

FC Bengaluru United have been leading the standings for most part of the season but their sudden 1-2 defeat against another Goan side Dempo Sports Club has given hope.

Sporting Clube will look to use the advantage as they take on Bengaluru United at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Saturday, at 4 pm.

Sporting Clube, who won the Third Division, are currently fifth in the points table. Armando Colaco’s side have 13 points from nine games in the eight-team league.

Bengaluru United have dropped to the second spot with 19 points, while Sporting Club Bengaluru currently occupy the top place with 21 points.

Dempo SC are third on 17 points, followed by Sudeva Delhi FC with 14 points in the fourth position.

Sporting Clube go into the fixture after a morale boosting 5-2 win away against Kenkre FC, where striker Alister Anthony scored a quick hat-trick within 10 minutes and Doyal Alves got a brace.

In the first leg in Bengaluru, Sporting Clube narrowly lost to Bengauru United 0-1 after a defensive lapse despite controlling the game for the most part.

It will be payback time now for Sporting Clube.
