PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa will take on Corps of Signals in the Goa Pro League encounter at Bambolim Stadium on Sunday at 03:45 p.m.
Sporting are currently perched at the top with 24 points from 10 matches played a win on Sunday would take them 5 points clear from FC Bardez who are currently placed second. Corps of Signals is at the 10th spot with 5 points from 10 matches played.
Ahead of the match Sporting’s Head Coach Mateus Costa said “It is an important match for us as it can increase the gap on top of the table.”
“The mood is very positive in the camp; we had a double over CSM Taleigao and managed to climb on top of the table. Since we have reached mid way of the league it’s a good to be at the top, now we have to maintain it and make sure we do not lose any points,” he added.
When quizzed about the previous encounter with Corps which ended in a goal feast for Sporting, Gaffer Costa said “It was anyone’s match we did well in the second half to score all those goals, but all said and done this is a different day and Corps of Signals have a fine set of players and am sure it will be a very good contest.”
Sporting Clube de Goa have been ridden with injuries and suspensions. Among the injury concerns of Gaffer Costa the play maker Glan Martins is surely a major blow as he will be rested due to a slight injury he picked up during training before the last match, while Clemente Joseph will also miss out on Sundays match.
The in-form defender Harpreet Singh would also be unavailable as he hasn’t fully recovered from a mild flu. On the positive side Gaffer Costa will have the services of Loveday Enyinnaya and Ponif Vaz in the back as they return after serving their ban.
Also the return of Francis Dadzie in the front will be a major boost for the Flaming Oranje.
