PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa edged past Dempo Sports Club 4-3 in GFA’s U-14 football league match, at Don Bosco ground, here, on Sunday.
Sporting Clube took an early lead through Shannon Viegas in the ninth and the striker came back to haunt the Dempo SC defense in the 18th minute with a brace.
Just when it looked like the match had tilted in favour of Sporting Clube, Wellington Falerio stunned the Sporting Clube keeper with a deft placement in the 33rd minute.
Just before The Flaming Oranje defense could reorganise, Dempo SC’s Stewart D’Mello made it 2-2 in the 36th minute.
However, their joy was short-lived as Sporting Clube’s Floyd Cortex found the net in the 40th minute.
The second half saw a determined Dempo SC turn things around as Fredrick Fernandes levelled terms in the 63rd minute. But The Golden Eagles failed to hold on the score for long as Anthony Fernandes netted the fourth goal for Sporting Clube in the 66th which turned to be the match-winner.
The Sporting Clube defence managed to contain a resilient Dempo SC side for rest of the second half.
