Sporting Clube pip Kenkre FC for first win

RAIA: Sporting Clube de Goa showed tremendous fight as they secured a 2-1 win against Kenkre FC in the I-League 2, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco.

It was Sporting Clube’s first win in the competition after being held 1-1 by Sudeva Delhi FC in the first match.

Kenkre FC captain Raul Almeida gave the visitors the lead after the half an hour mark. However, Sporting Clube worked their way back with goals from captain Joel Colaco and the winner by substitute Alister Anthony four minutes from time.

Sporting Clube were in total control from the start and tried to establish control over the proceedings. They had a couple of chances as first, Kunal Kundaikar came close but only saw his effort hit the side-netting.

Subsequently, Biswa Darjee thought he had given Sporting Clube the lead after connecting a cross from Shelton Nickson. However, Biswa was flagged offside.

Then, striker Lloyd Cardozo tried to curl in from the center and then set up Dattaraj Gaonkar in an ideal position but the mideo ballooned it over.

Against run of play, Kenkre FC took the lead in the 34th minute. Daniel took a throw in and then found captain Raul Almeida inside the box. The midfielder kept his cool, chipped the ball over center-back Joyner Lourenco and unleashed a right-footer as goalkeeper Dylan Da Silva could only get his fingertips on it.

In the second half, Sporting Clube finally found the equaliser through a set piece. Biswa floated a dangerous corner which found Kunal. The left-backs fierce shot was blocked by the rival keeper and the rebound fell to Sporting Clube captain Joel Colaco for an easy tap in.

With four minutes to go, Sporting Clube took the lead. Mark Carvalho weaved his way into the box and set up substitute Alister Anthony, who finished neatly. 

Minutes later, Kenkre FC were down to 10-man after Aravindraj Rajan received his second booking for a challenge on Dattaraj.
